Throat Liner

Description
In the high-pressure world of concrete extrusion, the internal walls of the machine face a constant, brutal battle. A concrete mix is essentially liquid sandpaper, a high-velocity stream of abrasive aggregates and cement paste that can erode standard steel in weeks. At WELSCH, we transform this vulnerability into a long-term engineering asset with our high-performance throat liners.
The throat, the critical internal surfaces between the spike shaft, the main roller, and the slipper, is the highest-pressure zone in the entire plant. It is here that the material is compressed and accelerated, creating a concentrated abrasive force. Our liners are the sacrificial armor that protects the structural integrity of your machine, ensuring that the internal kinematics of your WELSCH head remain mathematically perfect for years, not weeks. We specialize in lining the throat with precision-fitted tungsten carbide bars, creating a near-diamond-hard surface that maintains its original dimensions for millions of cycles.
While the most expensive modern extrusion heads come with integrated wear protection, many older machines are left unprotected. Planking or lining the throat with our TC-composite bars is one of our most popular high-performance upgrades. We can retrofit almost any heritage Redland, Powell, or standard heads of other brands, bringing them up to the standards of the world's most advanced production lines. Our liners feature a sandwich design: an ultra-hard tungsten carbide wear-face vacuum-brazed to a high-tensile steel carrier, allowing the liner to absorb mechanical shocks while providing a surface virtually immune to abrasion.
Our tungsten carbide liners are precision-ground to a low-friction finish, allowing concrete to glide through the compression zone, reducing load on drive systems and lowering energy consumption. By maintaining a tight internal throat, we prevent material bleeding, ensuring 100% of your concrete is directed into the tile profile.
