CRT Shaping & Tooling

WELSCH INDUSTRIAL manufactures high-quality shaping tools and machine parts from tungsten carbide, tool steel, and hard metal for concrete roof tile production. Our product range includes forming rollers rated for 150+ TPM, hybrid slipper technology with modular tungsten carbide inserts, round-nose knives achieving up to 350,000 cuts per blade life, and precision guide rails with induction hardening up to 5,300 mm.

All tools are precision ground and manufactured in Germany under strict quality specifications. Materials range from Wolfram-alloyed tool steels vacuum-hardened to 60+ HRC to solid tungsten carbide in grain sizes from Nano (<0.2 um) to Extracoarse (>6 um).

Frequently Asked Questions

WELSCH INDUSTRIAL uses premium materials specifically selected for each application. Our primary materials include tungsten carbide (WC) in grain sizes from nano (<0.2 µm) to extra-coarse (>6 µm), matched to the mineralogy of your concrete aggregate. We also use Wolfram-alloyed tool steels vacuum-hardened to 60+ HRC for slippers and end discs, high-chrome tool steels for forming rollers, and specialized spring steels for cutting knives. For hybrid assemblies, we combine tungsten carbide inserts with steel carriers using vacuum brazing, structural bonding, or mechanical fastening. Surface treatments include tungsten carbide spraying, plasma nitriding, and PVD coatings (TiN, CrN, TiAlN) to further reduce friction and extend service life.
Service life varies depending on operating conditions, concrete mix composition, and production speed. As a reference, our ECO series round-nose knives deliver 170,000 to 220,000 cuts, while the premium SV3 series achieves 280,000 to 350,000 cuts per blade life. Tungsten carbide-armored components such as throat liners and guide rails maintain their original dimensions for millions of production cycles. Our hybrid slippers feature modular carbide inserts that can be replaced without discarding the entire tool body, significantly reducing long-term tooling costs. Through premium material selection, vacuum hardening, and precision grinding, our tools consistently outperform conventional alternatives by a factor of three or more in most applications.
Yes, every tool WELSCH INDUSTRIAL produces is manufactured individually according to customer specifications. We work closely with you to analyze your specific production environment, concrete mix composition, production speed, and quality targets to develop the optimal solution. This includes custom slipper profiles for unique tile geometries, application-specific roller surface geometries, and cutting knives matched to your sand mineralogy. For new tile profiles, our hybrid and 3D freeform design capability allows us to create complex organic shapes that maintain mechanical stability at 150 TPM. We can also manufacture from physical samples or CAD data, and our reverse engineering capabilities enable reproduction of tools for legacy machines without original documentation.
